Meet Danielle Harvey
Danielle joined Andrews Orme & Hinton, a small accountancy firm, as a trainee in July 1997 straight from Sixth Form College. She gained her AAT qualification in 1999 and her ACCA qualification in Aug 2003. In 2006 Danielle joined Bates & Co, becoming an Associate in 2007, and gained her ACCA fellowship status in August 2008 followed by her ACA qualification in 2012 – this same year Danielle was appointed a director of Bates & Co.
Her specialist areas are IT, personal tax (including rental property income), start-up businesses, and owner managed Limited companies.
Accountancy is the perfect profession for Danielle as she likes order and loves it when things reconcile and balance! She takes pride meeting deadlines and getting things done for clients when they need them. She enjoys meeting different people and actively working with, and helping, clients pre-empt problems before they arise – helping their businesses grow.
Danielle is friendly, approachable and fun. She is also an expert at explaining complex tax concepts and terminology simply to new and existing clients.
Meet Danielle:
Fun Fact: Danielle went on a celebrity cruise around Mexico, with fellow Director Amy Telford, to meet their teenage crushes New Kids On The Block!
Hobbies: She plays netball with Samantha Bennett, enjoys the gym and loves holidaying – especially cruises and Disney World.
Perfect evenings: Watching a Netflix documentary series whilst drinking Whispering Angel.
How would her friends describe her: Loyal, hard-working, great fun, kind, full of life and a number 1 New Kids On The Block fan!
Meet Amy Telford
Amy Telford started working for Bates & Co in 1997, joining the business under a Modern Apprenticeship Scheme. Following a 6 year career at the practice (and whilst studying part time!) Amy qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) in August 2003, and became an Associate at Bates & Co in 2006.
In 2008 she was granted federation member status within the Association of Chartered Certified Accounts and became an FCCA. Amy transferred membership from a Chartered Certified to a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and was awarded a practising certificate within the institute in August 2012.
Amy has specialist expertise in providing financial advice to business start-ups, specifically giving them an overview of the tax system and how it works, and supporting the fledgling business whilst they implement a bookkeeping system. She can also advise existing businesses on the best tax strategies going forward, helping them incorporate their business where appropriate.
Amy loves being an accountant, saying it’s very rewarding when seeing her client’s businesses succeed and grow. At times she finds the more technical, mathematical parts of the work frustrating, but loves it when things “balance”.
Amy genuinely believes Bates & Co, now Harvey, Telford & Bates, is different from other accountancy practices due to the caring and friendly ethos. Nothing is too much trouble and the team are friendly and most importantly, approachable. Amy hopes to challenge the stereotype of accountants whilst still maintaining the highest levels of professionalism and expertise.
Meet Amy:
Fun fact: Amy was Head Girl of a Convent School.
Hobbies: She is a crazy (her words!) animal lady with 2 dogs, a cat, tortoise, lizard and a scorpion. When she’s not with her animals, Amy enjoys personal training sessions, spin classes and watching Friends.
How would her friends describe her: Obsessionally tidy, a great drinking partner, and the organiser of all fun-filled trips.
Meet Samantha Bennett
Samantha joined HTB in 2003. Her responsibilities include preparation of accounts for small & medium businesses (sole traders, partnerships and limited companies); preparation of tax computations for companies and individuals and the preparation of management accounts for small & medium businesses.
Samantha’s qualifications include AAT (2005), and she has been a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) since 2009. Samantha received her fellowship (FCCA) in 2014.
Samantha is now Client Account Manager at Harvey Telford & Bates, managing the payroll and bookkeeping departments. Her responsibilities with clients includes assisting with Sage bookkeeping software training. Samantha’s specialist areas are in MTD, VAT advice and Auto Enrolment Pension Advice.
Meet Samantha:
Fun fact: One of her favourite meals to enjoy out is afternoon tea – the best one yet was at The Ritz.
Hobbies: Samantha plays in a netball team with Danielle, cycles, and reads. She is also a big sports fan, and will watch most on TV but she prefers to watch them live whenever she can.
Sum up perfect evening after a busy day at work: Running off the stresses of the day on a netball court, especially if her team wins!
Proudest achievement: Cycling 100km through London in 2019, to raise money for Women vs Cancer. She is looking to tackle an even bigger challenge cycling through Kenya in October 2022 fundraising for the same charity.
How would her friends describe her: Caring, thoughtful and always up for a challenge.
Meet Laura Bright
Laura joined Harvey Telford & Bates in 2000, initially starting as a trainee accountant. Today, Laura is one of our Client Account Managers.
Laura qualified as an Accounting Technician (AAT) in 2003. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant and has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales since 2006. She became a Fellow of the ICAEW in April 2017 (FCA).
Laura’s role includes accounts, tax returns, and management accounts for sole traders, partnership and Limited companies. She also jointly manages the bookkeeping and payroll departments with Samantha.
Laura is a specialist in Making Tax Digital (MTD) initiatives. Her other specialist areas include VAT and auto enrolment pension advice and Sage bookkeeping guidance and training.
Meet Laura:
Hobbies: Travelling especially cruises, alongside catching up with friends and football.
Sum up perfect evening after a busy day at work: Enjoying a relaxing evening with her family, watching films in the winter and going for walks in the summer.
Sports fan: Laura is a big football fan and a season ticket holder at Shrewsbury Town. She enjoys watching many other sports and is looking forward to attending the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
Proudest achievement: Becoming a mum to her two girls.
How would her friends describe her: Fun, caring, loyal and considerate.
Meet Joanna Earl
After completing a BA (Hons) degree in Business, Accountancy and Finance in 2004, Joanna joined an accountancy practice as a trainee, qualifying as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2009. She became FCCA qualified in 2014 and has now been working in practice for over 18 years.
Joanna joined Harvey, Telford & Bates Chartered Accountants back in November 2015. Joanna’s expertise lie in self assessment tax returns, VAT returns, company secretarial work and P11d’s, as well accounts preparation for all types of business including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
From excelling in Maths at school and college, Joanna knew she was a numbers person so pursuing accountancy as a career seemed the natural course to follow. This was later confirmed when studying her degree as she enjoyed the accountancy side of her learning more than any other area of her course. As a result, Joanna made the decision to progress to become a qualified accountant.
Meet Joanna:
Fun fact: She was once the leading role playing Peter Pan in a pantomime.
Hobbies: Joanna enjoys singing and is a member of The People’s Show Choir. Her family are members of Chester Zoo and Joanna visits as often as possible.
Sum up perfect evening after a busy day at work: Relaxing with a large glass of wine in her garden.
Sports fan: She enjoys watching football – especially standing on the sideline watching her son play in his local team. Joanna is an avid Manchester United supporter.
Proudest achievement: Outside of her professional qualifications and career, her proudest achievement is having her son, Noah.
How would her friends describe her: Fun-loving, bubbly, loyal and the organiser of everything!
Meet Mark Davies
Mark joined Harvey Telford & Bates in March 2017 as an Accounts Assistant, recently Mark has progressed within HTB and is now an Accounting Solutions Technician. Within his role, Mark supports our Client Account Managers, processes and completes monthly and quarterly VAT returns, bookkeeping and payroll.
Mark has an AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and gained his AAT Bookkeeping Qualification (AATQB) in 2019 .
Working with numbers and problem-solving is what drove Mark into working in accountancy. For him, the added bonus is he enjoys the office environment with the team at Harvey Telford & Bates.
Meet Mark:
Hobbies: He plays cricket for Shelton Cricket Club, which involves training and a match day at the weekend, bringing a lot of socialising opportunities! When Mark is not playing cricket, he enjoys going out for food and drinks with his family and friends.
Sum up perfect evening after a busy day at work: Chilling at home with his girlfriend (usually watching Netflix or a film). He enjoys the occasional trip out for food and a couple of drinks – definitely only a couple when it’s a school night though!
Sports fan: Mark is a massive Manchester United fan and was a season ticket holder for many years. He now has a membership and is looking to get a season ticket once again. He tries to go to as many games as possible but not just to watch his beloved Manchester United – he loves watching any good football game. As a big cricket fan he follows England when they are playing. He finds enjoyment in watching a wide range of sports.
Proudest achievement: Winning the league in his first year as 1st team captain for Shelton Cricket Club. This was made even more special as he was injured and ill for a couple of years before he was able to make his return to the game.
How would his friends describe him: Friendly, easy going, laid back and always up for a good time. His friends always say he’s there for them and always just a text away.
Meet Callum Perry
Callum previously worked in customer service for 5 years, from a General Sales Assistant to a Pallet & Case Maker. He is now training to become a Payroll Administrator.
Through his time working, and training, at Harvey Telford & Bates, Callum wants to take all the skills and learning he can to progress to become a Payroll Administrator following his training.
Callum was attracted to accountancy as he enjoys maths and helping clients with their needs. He also has a keen interest to learn and expand his knowledge base.
Meet Callum:
Fun fact: Callum is Captain of his football team who have won many trophies.
Hobbies: He enjoys football, gaming and socialising with his friends.
Sum up a perfect evening after a busy day at work: Cooking and sitting down to watch a movie.
Sports fan: Callum enjoys both watching and playing football and cricket and has a keen interest to try lots of different sports.
Proudest achievement: His proudest achievement is winning trophies with his football team as their Captain.
How would his friends describe him: Thoughtful, determined, competitive and always there when needed.
